A Time For Love (after The Essence of Time) - Peter Graham
Peter Graham asked me to perform 'A Time For Love' as one of the six a cappella studies that he composed during the COVID-19 crisis as practice material for brass players. This was a special moment for me, as Peter wrote my first solo 'A Time For Peace' taken from the same test piece - The Essence of Time. The sheet music is available to download free of charge here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kqLrEP80RqWuQug-OtnTO_BKBaBmtb2k

Ignition (after Shine as the Light) - Peter Graham
Shine as the Light is one of my all-time favourite pieces to play with a brass band. When I heard this new piece 'Ignition' played wonderfully by Gary Fountain on Soprano Cornet, I was instantly drawn to play it. Here is my version of Peter Graham's 'Ignition (after Shine as the Light)' along with something a bit different in the visual department to represent the theme of darkness to light. The sheet music is available to download free of charge here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kqLrEP80RqWuQug-OtnTO_BKBaBmtb2k

Adagio (after Prisms) - Peter Graham
Following on from Peter Graham's 'A Time For Love' I have invited my friend (and stunning euphonium virtuoso) Glenn Van Looy to record another of the six a cappella studies with me - this is 'Adagio' (after Prisms). The sheet music is available to download free of charge here: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1kqLrEP80RqWuQug-OtnTO_BKBaBmtb2k

Bel Canto - Kenneth Downie
Bel Canto, a solo for Eb Tenor Horn and band, was written for Sheona White. As the title suggests the music is very song-like and features soaring melodic lines which exploit the middle and upper registers of the tenor horn. This performance features Sheona with the YBS Band, live as part of the 1998 European Gala Concert in Kerkrade.

Concertpiece No. 2, Opus 12 - Vassily Brandt
Vassily Brandt was a Russian trumpeter, pedagogue, and composer. He was principal trumpet of the Bolshoi Theatre and went on to become first cornet. He succeeded Friedrich Richter as the trumpet professor of the Moscow Conservatory, and also taught band orchestration there. He is considered the founder of the Russian trumpet school. His two Concert Pieces for trumpet and piano, are numbered 1 & 2 (opus 11 and 12 respectively), are also widely performed today. This is a video that was recorded during my very first visit to the Manger Folkehøgskule (Folk High School) as a guest. I have such fond memories of my visits and meeting enthusiastic young performers as I was myself! I made life long friendships from these visits and one of those students was a young baritone player Margaret Antrobus who became our star Principal Baritone at YBS. She now resides back in Manger and actually works at the school! Thank you to her for digging out this video from many, many years ago!!!
