Concertpiece No. 2, Opus 12 - Vassily Brandt
Vassily Brandt was a Russian trumpeter, pedagogue, and composer. He was principal trumpet of the Bolshoi Theatre and went on to become first cornet. He succeeded Friedrich Richter as the trumpet professor of the Moscow Conservatory, and also taught band orchestration there. He is considered the founder of the Russian trumpet school. His two Concert Pieces for trumpet and piano, are numbered 1 & 2 (opus 11 and 12 respectively), are also widely performed today.
This is a video that was recorded during my very first visit to the Manger Folkehøgskule (Folk High School) as a guest. I have such fond memories of my visits and meeting enthusiastic young performers as I was myself! I made life long friendships from these visits and one of those students was a young baritone player Margaret Antrobus who became our star Principal Baritone at YBS. She now resides back in Manger and actually works at the school! Thank you to her for digging out this video from many, many years ago!!!
